First, thank you from a student who shared this video with me. I think this is going to be another learning resource. Below is a video of a Bronchoscopy. This is an example of a procedure that 1 word makes a big difference. This pt. had a Bronchoscopy with brushing, lavage and what? Can you tell us what is the correct CPT code? What is a dx that would require this procedure to be done for confirmation?

I haven't gotten into CPT yet, but did try to investigate the possible dx that would warrant this procedure. Would you use a V code for screening? I looked in Index to Diseases/screening/pulmonary tuberculosis and found V74.1 as one possible dx code.

Also, I did peek at CPT. And I'm guessing there are several codes? These are just guesses tho as I haven't studied CPT yet:
31628 Bronchoscopy with transbronchial lung biopsy(s) (for the tissue taken)
31623 Endoscopy with brushing
31624 Endoscopy with alveolar lavage

I could be way off base...might be guilty of "unbundling" or other....? But I had fun with this project and know I've much more to look forward to learning.

So using Find a code I came up with lobar pneumonia for a Dx and 31623 31624 31628 for CPTs
Am I even close? Trying to "be my own consultant"...
